Tennessee General Assembly commemorates Scopes Trial Centennial
The Tennessee House of Representatives recently adopted a resolution sponsored by Rep. Ron Travis recognizing Rhea County and its celebration of the centennial of the Scopes Trial.
A number of Rhea countians attended the ceremony when the resolution was presented to local officials in the House chamber in the state capital April 17, including RHPF President Rick Dye and Vice President Tom Davis. Others in attendance included Laura Travis, Rhea County Historical Society President Jacob Ellis, and the Rev. Keith Butt, pastor of New Union Baptist Church who gave the invocation at the day's House session.
