Heritage Days

Join us in Downtown Dayton the second weekend in July as we celebrate the trial that put Rhea County on the world’s map!

Inside the courthouse the Scopes Trial Players present a historically anchored dramatization of the 1925 Scopes Trial, while outside there is plenty for the whole family to enjoy.

Join us Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a courtyard-full of activities that recall Rhea County’s history and heritage.

Heritage? How about churning butter (maybe taste some of your handiwork)? Watch a blacksmith turn iron into a tool. See a bladesmith create a knife. Learn how a craftsman can turn a piece of wood into a gun stock. Try your skill with a bow and arrow.

History? See classic vehicles from the teens and twenties parked on Market Street. Dig a little deeper to uncover fossils and minerals. Take a carriage ride through historic Downtown Dayton and learn about sites that figure in to the Scopes Trial story. Make reservations here.

Food? Keep tuned for more information about free hot dogs, drinks, and snacks.

Music? Make your own at a musical petting zoo .

Most activities are free, and there will be something to do for the whole family. Plan NOW to be there!
